The basic principle of Titanium Welding Wire selection

Consider the physical properties, mechanical properties and chemical composition of the Titanium Wire material


(1) For the welding of structural steel, the principle of equal strength is generally considered, and welding materials that meet the mechanical properties of joints are selected.

(2) For dissimilar steel welded joints between low carbon steel and low alloy steel, welding materials corresponding to steel with lower strength grade are generally selected.

(3) For the welding of heat-resistant steel and stainless steel, in addition to considering the strength, but also consider the main chemical composition of the weld metal and the chemical composition of the base metal.

(4) When the chemical composition of the base material is high in carbon, sulfur, phosphorus and other harmful impurities, the welding material with strong crack resistance should be selected. Such as low hydrogen welding materials.

Consider the working condition and service performance of the weldment

(1) The weldment under dynamic load and impact load, in addition to the requirement of tensile strength, yield strength, impact toughness, plasticity have high requirements. At this time, low hydrogen welding materials should be selected.

(2) When the weldment works in the corrosive medium, it is necessary to distinguish the type of medium, concentration, working temperature and corrosion type (general corrosion, intergranular corrosion, stress corrosion, etc.), so as to choose the appropriate stainless steel welding material.

(3) When the weldment works under wear conditions, it is necessary to distinguish between general wear or impact wear, intermetallic wear or abrasive wear, wear at room temperature or at high temperature, etc. It should also be considered whether to work in corrosive media to select a suitable surfacing welding material.

(4) For welds working at low or high temperature, welding materials that can ensure low or high temperature mechanical properties should be selected.


Consider the complexity and structural characteristics of welds, welding joint type and so on


(1) The weldment with complex shape or large thickness is prone to crack due to the large internal stress generated by the weld metal during cooling shrinkage. Therefore, it is necessary to use welding materials with good crack resistance, such as low hydrogen electrode and high toughness electrode.

(2) For some joints with smaller bevelings or joints with strict root penetration control, welding materials with greater penetration depth or penetration ability should be selected.

(3) When certain welding parts are difficult to clean due to the limitations of conditions, welding materials that are not sensitive to rust, oxide skin and oil should be considered, such as acid electrode, so as to avoid porosity and other defects.


Consider the spatial position of the weld

Some welding materials are only suitable for welding in a certain position, and the welding effect in other positions is poor. Some welding materials can be welded in all kinds of positions, and the characteristics of welding position should be considered when selecting.

Consider welding working conditions and operating environment


(1) In the absence of DC welder, AC-DC welding materials should be selected.

(2) Some steels (such as pearlite heat-resistant steel) need to carry out post-welding stress relief heat treatment, but limited by equipment conditions or its own structure and can not be carried out, should be selected and the base metal chemical composition of welding materials (such as austenitic stainless steel welding materials), can avoid post-welding heat treatment.

(3) Welding materials should be selected reasonably according to construction site conditions, such as field operation and welding working environment.

(4) In the acidic electrode and alkaline electrode can meet the place, in view of the alkaline electrode on the operation technology and construction preparation of high requirements, so should try to use acid electrode.


Consider the economics of production


(1) On the premise of ensuring performance, try to choose cost-effective welding materials.

(2) For primary and secondary welds with different performance requirements, different welding materials can be used. Do not unilaterally pursue the overall performance of welding materials.

Consider welding efficiency


For the structure of large welding workload, high efficiency welding materials should be used as far as possible, such as wire, iron powder electrode, efficient stainless steel electrode and so on.
